Kit for Varroa Mite Testing- Sugar Shaker and Drone Uncapping Tool
This bundle has both a sugar shaker and drone uncapping knife so that you can test for varro using multiple methods.
The sugar shaker kit is used for the survaillence of varroa (as well as other mites and braula fly). Australian beekeepers are required to test for varroa at least twice a year (ie. spring and autumn). The kit contains a jar labelled with the exotic plant pest hotline, a lid with stainless steel mesh (removable for thorough cleaning), a bag of icing sugar, and a laminted instruction sheet. You will also need some newspaper and a bucket of water. The kit comes with the instructions you need to carry out the test but you can also find the Agriculture Victoria instructions here.
The drone uncapping fork is used to pierce the capped drones so that they can be examined for the presence of varroa.
